Special Yarn for a Special Project

Remember last summer/fallish, when I went bananas over Rachel’s Daydream Believer batt? This stuff:

Well, I got her to spin it for me cause I haven’t learned yet… then it turned into this:

I’ve been holding onto that skein for a long while now. Everynow and then I would pick it up and think “this is gonna be for something special” I didn’t know what… but I knew that I wanted to make something more than some mitts or a cowl. For me, handspun/dyed yarns hold a special place in my heart cause more often than not, you sorta know the person you’re buying it from, and for me, it’s always a special purchase. Hand dyed/spun isn’t always something that I can afford, so when I do get the chance to buy it, its often a big deal :)

But on with the story… so, the above batt, which then turned into the prettiest skein ever, is now this:

baby hat and mitts

Yesterday we had a snow day and I knew exactly what I wanted to make. I wanted to make a little hat and mitts so that our little one to be could wear home from the hospital. How much more special can you get??? :) I wound the skein up and quickly knit up a swatch. I decided on a basic hat and mitt cause I really wanted the color of the yarn and the yarn itself to really shine. I’ve since then, closed the web browsers with the PDF’s so for the life of me I cant remember what pattern I used from Ravelry. I’ll have to look em up again and update this post later.

The little hat and mitts knit up so quickly and nicely. I was so happy. By the time that the hubs got home, the hat and the first mitt was done. Even he gushed over it. I think that you can’t help but gush over baby knits… Look at how small they are!!!!

So there you have it. I finally figured out what the special thing that I wanted to knit was. Now, all we need is a baby to put them onto ;) And now… some gratuitous closeups of the color and fiber itself. It’s sooooo freaking pretty!!!!!!!!
