The Perfect Gift – Ishbel by Ysolde
You know… I didnt think that I would be able to finish this shawl on time. I had never before knit with such fine yarn, nor had i ever made a proper shawl. In case you’re wondering about how insane my mission was… then please read my previous post.
I was feeling pretty confident with myself, i managed to get the base of the shawl (the stockinette part) done in about 2.5 nights. I kept saying to myself, “i so got this” lo and behold, after my one good solid weekend of straight knitting I had the great idea of REALLY looking at my lace work. Immediately my heart sank.
I knew that it wasnt right, but I didnt know where I went wrong. Well, that’s until I went back to the pattern. I was supposed to work the lace in following sections A, B, A, C, D. what I did was, A, B, C, A, D. Man what a mess. There was no way that I could leave it the way it was. Last friday, was the worst friday of my life. I frogged all my lace. I was so traumatized by it because I knew I was running out of time. On came the migraine.
Monday night, I was down to my last 4 rows. I’m not sure how I managed to knit so quickly (each row at this point was taking over 15 min to get across) but i went into this wierd jedi mind meld state and knit so fast that I made myself queazy. It was quite the night.
Last night was blocking night.
I had absolutely no idea about how to go about pinning it. After about a half hour or so… I managed to get it pinned properly. Mind you, If i had read this first… I would have been back to knitting much sooner! Lesson learned.
Today was my friends actual birthday. Her name is Sue by the way
I was so happy to give it to her. She absolutely LOVED it. The color was perfect for her and it looked so pretty on her. In the end, all the queazyness and stress of not knowing if i would finish it on time was so worth it. Sue is a great friend, and I would do it all over again for her. awwww shux!
And now, ladies and gents… the pics
